‘The Beginning of the End’ - Somewhat heading back to old roots

31/10/2024
The Courteeners' latest releases reveal a noticeable experimental edge, displaying a more mainstream and pop vibe. However, the recent track with a feature from Australian rock band DMAS seemingly goes back to old roots we once were familiar with. "The Beginning Of The End," a single that immediately captures a reader's attention, with superb vocals from both singers and a dynamic pace fulfilling that rock feeling many Courteeners fans crave. An infectious chorus brings an extra layer to the track.

To put it simply, this song is a perfect collaboration from two phenomenal indie bands, showcasing incredible vocals, with Tommy from the DMAS shining throughout with an angelic tone, whilst Liam Frays bounces back with the relaxed vocals. These two flourish off each other's talent immensely throughout this track. Instrumentally, this song is arguably the best from the band's recent album "Pink Cactus Cafe." The constant dynamic intention from the groups will captivate any listener; immediately fast-paced drums with an immaculate guitar sound come into play, with Liam Frays vocals blending straight into the track faultlessly just seconds later. Tommy and Liam evidently bounce between each other's voices throughout this song, truly making it feel like a joint track, whereas as a listener we get to hear the best of both artists at the same parts of the track. A seamless collaboration.

Amongst all the recent experiments we have recently seen from the Mancunian band, this appears to be another one with this collaboration, which is potentially a bold move made by the group. This song seems to evoke many topics through the songwriting; although many of the lyrics present are simple, they still connote many feelings for listeners. "Am I a sinner on the Mend?" pursues somewhat a feeling of guilt and self-regret, which is prominent throughout the tune, further supported with more lyrics, such as "Is this the beginning of the end?" adding to that vibe created. Although this song has received mixed reviews from many people across the country, it is clear both musicians display remarkable talent.
The DMAS will be supporting the courteneers on their huge headline tour across the UK, starting in November. To grab any final tickets for these gigs, click here.
