Festival Season 2024: A Summer To Remember

29/08/2024
A formidable festival season has officially come to a close, and it ended with an unforgettable bang. While a sense of melancholy looms over festival goers heads, impeccable moments were provided over the course of the summer. Upcoming bands shone all the way through at many festivals, putting their name on the map, igniting smaller stages. Many surprises were also provided over the summer, including a historical Oasis reunion teased at the back end of August. Today, we'll explore the standout highlights from this year's festival season, spotlighting artists we believe took charge of the summer. It has undoubtedly been a year to remember.

Green Day returns to UK festival soil

American icons took their outstanding punk style down to the south of England to close the Isle of Wight festival. Prior to this festival, the band released their fourteenth studio album, 'Dreams', an album marking the continuation of the group's punk rock legacy. The new tracks from the album went down perfectly on a beaming summer day on the island. However, the highlight of Green Day's performance was their flawless delivery of classic hits, which always resonate worldwide. This time, the UK crowd responded with extraordinary enthusiasm. "Basket Case" instantly had everyone bouncing and singing, while "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" created unforgettable memories.

 Coldplay and Michael J. Fox

Coldplay performed a record fifth headline set at Glastonbury earlier this year, and it did not disappoint. Visually unbelievable effects, we're provided with the usual Xylobands being used by Chris Martin and the band on every member of the crowd. But a certain special guest stole the headlines, and that was iconic actor Michael J. Fox, most famously renowned for his impeccable role as Marty McFly in the Back to the Future movies. Michael, who has been battling Parkinson's disease, was invited on stage by Chris to perform "Fix You." It was a moving moment to see the legendary actor back with a guitar, reminiscent of his "Back to the Future" days, touching everyone's hearts. A truly beautiful moment.

 Fontaines, D.C. Romance Era

The Irish punk rock band Fontaines D.C. has been making a significant impact on the music scene recently, performing at numerous festivals throughout the summer. Firstly, with a headline set on The Park stage at Glastonbury, alongside an iconic performance, the band's shift in style and actions made the headlines. We believe this change in style and further developed music will see the band reach new heights, potentially sealing a place as one of the biggest bands on the globe in years to come. Furthermore, the band played a faultless set at Reading and Leeds over the weekend; this was another dive closer to greatness from Fontaines, D.C., performing a set oozing class and maturity. The distinct Irish accent in Grian's voice brings an authentic and vibrant energy to their music.

Anticipated return for Catfish and the Bottlemen

After years of speculation that the band has parted ways, it was announced last year that Catfish and the Bottlemen will return to the Reading and Leeds festivals in 2024. After considerable buildup, frontman Van Mcann took to the fields to headline the Friday in Leeds. A bolstering set was the case; a fervent crowd mixed with a charismatic frontman and a fantastic sound, expectations were certainly reached. The Welsh band also played the final day of Reading Festival; this set was chaotic to say the least. The band encountered power issues, which led them to walk offstage for fifteen minutes to resolve the problem. However, the situation worked in their favour when Van McCann delivered a stunning a cappella performance of "Cocoon," keeping the confused crowd fully engaged.

 Oasis Reunion

How could we not mention this? One of Britain's most influential bands of all time has announced that they will return for a set of tour dates. This huge announcement was teased after Liam Gallagher aced his headline set on the Sunday at reading. Throughout this set, Liam's voice sounded phenomenal; that raspy tone and an energetic rock and roll atmosphere is still there. During his set, Liam also dedicated Half the World away to "Noel F***ing Gallagher." This statement left fans eager and excited. Four days on from this memorable set, it still feels surreal to many fans around the world. 90s kids and the new generation will all be locked in to secure their tickets for these shows that are sure to sell out within minutes. Oasis are back.
