Unveiling the sounds of Lock-in - Revolutionising the sound of indie pop

08/06/2024

A groovy five piece indie pop band, made up of Benjy (Vocals), Joe (Lead Guitar), Angus Moore (Guitar), Sam Collins (Bass) and Ollie Stacey (Drums) have recently been igniting the music scene, displaying catchy guitar riffs and stellar vocals. Homegrown Hertfordshire band Lock-in have been making a name for themselves of late across the indie pop industry, pulling in a substantial fanbase, particularly after performing an electrifying headline show at London's Lafayette a few weeks back.

A unique experience when consuming Lock-ins material is what can be expected. The rasp in Benjy's voice is vital to making waves throughout the tunes, accompanied by memorable guitar riffs to generate that true indie feeling mixed in with a sense of pop. When recently catching up with frontman Benjy, we asked him which bands have influenced you and the music you produce. To which he responded, "The influence at the beginning of Lock-in was mainly down to the fact that being mates from school, we were going to loads of gigs at 16/17 anyway, so we thought we could do that. That same thing still applies but as we've grown our influence has changed and constantly evolves which is the beauty of it."

Since releasing their debut single to the world in 2020, titled "Teenager," the Hertfordshire lads have consistently been releasing music and are always on the rise, rapidly becoming fan favourites across social media platforms. 2021 was an impeccable year for the band. The classic indie anthem "Get Over It" was dropped on all platforms, as was a debut EP, which opened a key pathway for the group, proving to be a major contributor to their success over the recent years, witnessing the size of their fanbase soar to new levels. Three incredibly pop focused songs were put out by Lock-in in 2022, most famously "Sweet Love." This romantic groove earned the band a pivotal slot on Soccer AM. A golden opportunity to showcase the hard work that has been put in. Lock-in became TikTok sensations towards the back end of 2023, when a preview of the now-released song Red Stripe Remedy was posted. Beginning with the lyrics "Five Red Stripes for a Fiver" excelling through an infectious guitar sound, not only did social media adore the gripping catchy melody this song brought to listeners ears, but the fact they are putting out lyrics joking about beer further insinuated a sense of humour for the group. Red Stripe Remedy featured on the most recent piece of work from Lock-in, the Onto the Next EP. For a second EP, it did not disappoint, a typical Lock-in piece of music showcasing raw talent and indie-pop anthems. A band that is certainly taking the indie scene by storm.

Mastering live performances is a critical factor; it stands as a vital element that every band must possess if they aspire to secure those major gigs every musician dreams about. Rendering the crowd speechless should be any band's goal immediately after they have taken to the stage. Lock-in excel in this area; a flawless, bursting passion is evident throughout all live performances, ensuring the band go the extra mile for the fans. The indie pop group has recently been creating a name for themselves across the live music scene, particularly after headlining the this feeling stage at Truck Festival in 2023, in which they triumphed in spectacular style. "You smashed it." "Class" is only a minority of the plaudits Lock-in received subsequent to this energy brimming set. Over the course of March to April in 2024, securing a deservedly earned support slot to indie band The Lilacs was the next step. Across the span of three performances in Brighton, Southampton, and Bristol, Lock-in performed to an exceptional level, building a higher buzz for the young talents. Immediately after these performances, a monumental show at London's Lafayette on April 27, 2024, awaited for the band, and it did not disappoint. A unique cover of the nostalgic indie gem Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand was also implemented into the set list, further cranking up the energy levels in the audience. When we asked how it feels to sell out London's Lafayette, was this a pivotal moment for Lock-in as a group? Benjy responded with "Selling out Lafayette was an absolute dream. It's arguably one of London's best venues, definitely a new venue. It's so vast, but it feels so intimate. It was perfect for our type of crowd; every gig is a pivotal moment as we move forward and strive towards the road to Brixton."

Lock in can be captured at many festivals over the course of this year; most notably, the band is playing a set at the 2024 Isle of Wight Festival. To secure tickets to any of the events, visit https://www.lockinband.co.uk/.
